EHCO (Early Headship Coaching Offer)
The Early Headship Coaching Offer for New Headteachers, (formerly known as the ASO) is a targeted package of support for Headteachers in their first five years of Headship.
Are you eligible?
You are eligible for this targeted support package if you meet the following criteria:
- You in your first five years of headship
- You work in a state-funded school in England upon starting the training
- You have either completed an NPQH before taking up your first headship post or are currently taking the NPQH
- You have not withdrawn from the ASO previously
Programme Overview

This programme is made up of five teaching cycles. Within each cycle you are required to complete:
Teaching cycles
Throughout the course you will cover:
Teaching Cycle 1: School culture and teaching
Teaching Cycle 2: Implementation and operational management
Teaching Cycle 3: Curriculum and professional development
Teaching Cycle 4: Additional/SEND and behaviour
Teaching Cycle 5: Partnership and governance
Please note that the teaching cycles coincide with the teaching cycles for NPQH.

Assessment
There is no assessment for the EHCO - it is entirely focused on new Headteacher development, wellbeing and support.
Funding
Cost: £800 or fully funded to all state schools
