Teacher training at Redhill

About Us

As part of The Redhill Teaching Hub we provide high-quality primary and secondary teacher training in Early Years through KS1 & 2 into Secondary and Post-16 with our programme leading to QTS and PGCE. Our programmes are accredited by Inspiring Leaders, an outstanding SCITT, based in the East Midlands and serving Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and parts of Lincolnshire. Our partner schools represent a wide range of settings and contexts, which enables us to provide a diverse range of experiences for all our trainees.

Our training programmes offer those who train with us an exceptional level of support, tailored to individual need and are delivered by fully trained mentors and coaches. During their time with us trainees have the opportunity to learn from classroom teachers and practitioners who are experts in their field.

Our courses carefully blend significant hands-on teaching experience in our schools with extensive professional development training alongside the critical thinking and theory that is important for understanding teaching and learning principles. As a result, most of our former trainees have established outstanding careers, with many progressing into leadership roles.

What is school based teacher training?

For those considering teaching as a profession, there are several routes into teaching and there is a wealth of information on the DfE ‘Get into Teaching’ website: https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/

School based training options are ideal for graduates who want immediate hands-on experience in the classroom, alongside the in-depth focus on theory and research. On a school-based route, trainee’s typically complete two school placements with teaching time building steadily over the academic year. The majority of the trainee’s time is spent working alongside experienced practitioners who mentor, guide and support as needed.

Trainees can train in primary or secondary settings and most school based programmes will lead to both Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Often the PGCE can be achieved with additional Masters level credits, depending on the individual course, and providers work alongside a local university to deliver this aspect of the training programme.

The benefits of school based training include:

  • The opportunity to build meaningful relationships with staff and students over the course of the year.
  • The collegiality established by working together with fellow school based trainees.
  • The access to a wealth of support from the lead school / SCITT team.
  • The extensive practical experience which prepares trainees thoroughly for the start of a career in teaching.

Our ITT Partners

We work in partnership with Inspiring Leaders to train outstanding teachers who make a significant difference to their pupils, their schools and their profession. Inspiring Leaders works with a number of partners and we work alongside the Flying High SCITT Hub to deliver our Primary programme.

We are also partnered with NTU to offer the PGCE element of the training. All our trainees have the opportunity to qualify with QTS and PGCE with the option of gaining masters credits.

As a former Teaching School Alliance, Redhill has trained over 200 teachers via school and university based routes and many of those who have trained with us have gone on to enjoy successful careers as classroom teachers and school leaders.

Once our trainees have gained Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and their Post-graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), we offer all alumni five years' free access to our extensive CPD offer through the Redhill College in order to ensure there is a permanently accessible pathway to career progression.

On this website you will find information about our own ITT offer and links to the ITT provision of our strategic partners and other providers, supporting future teachers to find the training most suited to them.
