How to prepare and apply

The application process in 3 simple steps:

  1. Do your research, including checking out your local providers. Information about the application processes can be found on the Get Into Teaching website.

  2. All providers will be happy to talk to prospective applicants. A useful way of getting to meet providers is to attend regional Get Into Teaching events which usually take place in the Autumn and Spring terms.

"Whether you're ready to start your career in teaching or just curious, we can answer your questions at a Get Into Teaching event. These relaxed and informative events give you the opportunity to get expert advice and talk to teachers and local training providers." See events in the Redhill Hub region, here.

  3. Once you have decided on your preferred training providers (you can apply to five providers initially) you can start to put your application together. You will need evidence of relevant qualifications (see below), two references, a personal statement explaining why you want to teach and what prior experience you might have. You will also need the course codes for your chosen training programme.

To apply for teacher training courses in England, you should use the Apply for teacher training service. This is an easy-to-use website, giving clear guidance to help potential teachers make strong applications. To learn more about the new service and to get help with your application, visit the Get Into Teaching website.

What happens next?

After the providers have received your application, it will be appraised for interview. Interviews with most providers tend to consist of a pre-prepared teaching activity, a formal interview and an opportunity to look around a school.

Minimum qualifications to apply:

Applicants for primary teacher training will require:
